Artist Statement

I am an African-American artist who has continuously worked in black theatre spaces. Starting at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University which is an HBCU (Historically Black College or University) that led me to my fellowship at the Black Repertory Company. I enjoy presenting plays that reflect the Black experience in America which can open the floor for self acceptance. Seeing that there is actually a space for you in society because there are people similar to you within different environments makes you feel less alone, taking away the feeling of being a societal burden and proving how your reactions and spirit is not lost upon you. Problems and joys you have faced are normal and people like you can be celebrated, not just tolerated. Letting not only other actors but also audience members see a mirroring of themselves and the individuals that are in their environment, assisting with the discovery of joy and normalcy in their behaviors and experiences!
